Can Yomite read a PDF aloud as-is?
Yomite can import PDF, EPUB, and plain text files, extract the body text, and start reading it aloud. Textbook review sections, a paper’s Abstract/Methods/Discussion, internal documents — you can follow the content by ear instead of switching between paper and screen.
Playback speed is adjustable from 0.5× to 2.0×, and if you miss a line, tap that sentence to hear it again right away.
What about long articles on the web?
Long articles on sites like note, Qiita, Zenn, or Hatena Blog can be queued up by just pasting the URL. Yomite’s Web Reader extracts only the article body, so it never reads out ads or navigation.
If you write technical articles yourself, one use is listening to your own draft before publishing to catch typos and awkward phrasing.
Won’t a monotone voice put me to sleep?
A monotone narration gets sleepy fast. Yomite addresses that by letting you switch voice and emotional style. For example, you could assign the deeper baritone of Aida Shigeru to expository sections and the cooler tone of Rinne El to conclusions — switching by hand from the player. The voice you pick stays until you change it (it is not saved per chapter).

Are my PDFs sent to a server?
All of Yomite’s speech synthesis happens on-device. PDFs and text you import are never sent to a server to be voiced (only if you turn on iCloud sync do they sync to your own iCloud) — worth knowing if you’re working with research material or internal documents that need careful handling.
