Meet all 14 voices — personality, styles, and when to use each

Yomite ships 14 voices. Defaulting to “whichever female voice came first” leaves a lot on the table. Switching voice per story, per chapter, or per character is one of the easiest ways to make reading-by-ear feel rich rather than flat.

This is the field guide.

Male voices

fumifumi (#3F6F6B)

Calm, low-pitched mature male voice.

A controlled, understated read. Suits dry literary fiction (think Murakami), the narrative voice in mystery novels, or business non-fiction. One style.

にせ / Nise (#0EA5E9)

Bright young man, late teens to early twenties.

Transparent, sincere. Use for coming-of-age stories, young-adult novels, and light-novel narration where the protagonist is a student or new graduate. One style.

阿井田 茂 / Aida Shigeru (#A0522D)

Warm middle-aged baritone. Seven styles.

The veteran broadcaster of the cast. Great for narrators in documentaries, non-fiction, war stories, and historical fiction. Styles: Normal / Calm / Far / Heavy / Mid / Shout / Surprise — long-form content stays varied because you can switch tone for emphasis.

Female voices

まい / Mai (#3E4F8C)

Soft, slightly ethereal young female.

Quiet, slightly mysterious delivery. Suits romance, introspective essays, and modern poetry. Reads to you rather than at you. One style.

まお / Mao (#E1356B)

Mischievous, bright young girl. Six styles.

Normal / Plain / Sweet / Calm / Teasing / Wistful. Built for slice-of-life comedy, romcom, and quick comedic exchanges. The style switches let one character carry visible emotional range.

みちのくあいり / Michinoku Airi (#9D6FE8)

Expressive watercolour-warm young woman. Seven styles.

Normal / Sad / Angry / Disgust / Surprise / Fear / Joy — the emotion flagship of the catalog. Use for psychological fiction, suspense, or any character-driven story with strong internal conflict.

るな / Runa (#FF8A3D)

Bright, honest, orange-hair young girl.

Soft-edged delivery. Suits sports stories, food writing, travel narrative. Cheerful without being grating. One style.

れな / Rena (#5C7BB8)

Realistic 20-something woman. Five styles.

Normal / Sad / Happy / Plain / Surprise. A real-actress-like grain. Best for dialogue-heavy modern drama, workplace fiction, podcast narration.

コハク / Kohaku (#FF6FB1)

Affectionate cat-like young female. Four styles.

Normal / Sweet / Wistful / Sleepy. Squarely a character voice. Light romance, moe-flavoured fiction, and bedtime reading — the “sleepy” style is dangerously effective at putting you to sleep.

中2 / Chū-ni (#FF7AA8)

Energetic middle-school girl.

Tempo-driven narration. Perfect for shōnen-leaning light novels, club-activity stories, and high-energy slice-of-life. One style.

凛音エル / Rinne Elle (#2DD4BF)

Cool, stylish cyber-themed voice. Five styles.

Normal / Angry / Fear / Happy / Sad. A controlled-but-warm baseline that can lean in dramatic moments. Great for near-future sci-fi, cyberpunk, hard-boiled, and detective fiction with a female lead.

天深シノ / Amami Shino (#7B8FE0)

Soft angelic whisper voice. Four styles.

Normal / Happy / Sullen / Whisper. The whisper style is special — meditation guides, bedtime narration, ASMR-adjacent listening, inner-monologue passages.

桜音 / Ōne (#FFB4C8)

Gentle pink-hair classmate vibe.

Warm, approachable, easy on the ear. Suits school stories, coming-of-age writing, and essays. One style.

花音 / Kanon (#1E3A8A)

Refined young-lady voice.

Transparent, calm, slightly formal. Perfect for classical literature (Natsume Sōseki, Higuchi Ichiyō), pure literature, and high-register modern fiction. One style.

Casting tips

Different voice for the protagonist. Use a neutral voice (fumifumi or 凛音エル) for the narrative prose, and a character-fitting voice for the protagonist’s interior monologue. Yomite supports per-chapter voice switching.

Style switch per chapter. Angry chapter → “Angry” style. Sad chapter → “Sad”. みちのくあいり, れな, 阿井田 茂, まお, and 凛音エル all support emotion styles.

Bedtime reading: whisper / sleepy. 天深シノ “Whisper” or コハク “Sleepy” are genuinely effective. Combine with the sleep timer.

Male narrator + female dialogue. Pair 阿井田 茂 as the prose narrator with まお or みちのくあいり as the dialogue voice — a classic audio-drama setup. (v1 only supports per-chapter switching; sentence-level multi-cast is on the v2 roadmap.)
