How much storage does Yomite need?
All 315+ voices ship inside Yomite, nothing extra to download. What uses space: the audio cache and imported books, plus High quality and Eco modes.
Updated October 2026: earlier versions downloaded voices one by one. The current version ships every voice inside the app, and this guide has been rewritten to match.
Yomite uses the space of the app itself, plus a cache of spoken audio and the books you import (see the App Store listing for the app size). All 315+ Japanese voices are built into the app, so the voices need no extra space. If storage gets tight, check the breakdown in the storage section of Settings and start with the audio cache.

Do more voices take more space?
All 315+ Japanese voices live in one voice model bundled with the app. Picking a voice switches the speaker inside that model; nothing is downloaded. The model that analyses the text for reading is bundled too.
Trying more voices does not use more storage, and it needs no connection. In airplane mode, every voice still reads.
What is the difference between High quality and Fast · Eco?
For Japanese voices, you can choose how speech is generated:
- High quality for long books or when natural delivery matters most.
- Fast · Eco on older devices, to save battery, or when you want playback to start right away.
Switch between them from the player. Neither option downloads anything.
What does use space?
Yomite stores four kinds of data on your device:
- Spoken audio cache: audio for sentences already read, so replays start instantly. Safe to clear.
- Analysis cache: how each sentence should be read. It can be rebuilt.
- Your books and novels: EPUB, PDF, text and web novels you added.
- Safety copies: for example a copy of your library taken before an update.
The storage section in Settings shows how much each one uses. If space is tight, the audio cache is the first place to look.
Why does playback stop partway?
As the Web Reader troubleshooting section notes, the most common reason playback stops partway is a full device: the audio cache has nowhere to go. Keeping some free space makes long books play smoothly.
